Italy To Stage Continental Championship in 2019

The International Federation of American Football is delighted to confirm that Italy will host the European u19 Championship in 2019.

In the summer of 2019 the finest young athletes from across Europe will converge on the ancient city of Bologna to compete for the title of European Champion and the right to qualify for the 2020 World Championship.

Speaking to, Bid Lead Fabio Tortosa said "We have been working on lights that have been turned off for long weeks… I want to thank officially Havas SE, in the person of Federico Fantini and all his staff, and then the Communications Office of FIDAF, Luca Correnti and Barbara Allaria, who were tireless  as the operational arm of this first, important phase of work.

Tortosa continued “We know we have the eyes of all Europe on us, as well as those of CONI, but we are ready to accept the challenge!”

Stefano Spadini, CEO of Havas Group Media, a partner to the bid, commented: " This project reaffirms the multi-year collaboration that binds us to FIDAF, in order to promote American football in our country. We are therefore pleased to be able to fully support our partner also for the organization of this event, which for the world of sports with stars and stripes has an international importance. "

Richard MacLean, President of IFAF, praised the Italian bid team and the leadership in Europe. “Firstly I commend FIDAF for putting together a first rate bid. I trust that they will stage a memorable event.

MacLean continued “I would also like to pay tribute to Gregor Murth and thank him for the work he is doing to plan for activity across Europe in 2019 and beyond.”

The proposed format for the tournament, which will run from 24 July to 3 August, will see 8 teams compete following a continent-wide qualification process. Italy will qualify as host nation with further qualifiers announced in due course.
