World Games
The World Games are a multi sport event played under the umbrella of the International World Games Association (IWGA). Having participated as invitational sport at the World Games 2005, American football will return at the 2013 World Games in Duisburg and Duesseldorf.
In 2005 in Duisburg, Germany, 16,005 spectators in the Duisburg MSV arena cheered a 20-6 Germany victory over Sweden.
Sweden had reached the championship game with a 29-7 victory over France, while Germany triumphed 31-0 against Australia.
A fine defensive performance kept Germany in contention in the championship game after they trailed to two Sweden field goals. The hosts’ offense eventually had an effect when quarterback Jo Ulrich hit Marc Biedenkapp over 65 yards for the game’s first touchdown. Biedenkapp added a field goal for a 10-6 lead before a screen pass from Ulrich to Christian Poschmann and another Biedenkapp field goal put the result beyond doubt.
5,900 spectators saw a close battle for third place as France took the lead on a 31-yard by Laurent Marceline to lead 7-0 over Australia. Quarterback Franco found Signori for a second touchdown and a 14-point advantage to secure the bronze medal.
