The Associação de Futebol Americano do Brasil (AFAB) prepares itself for the first ever fully organized National Team game in history when Chile are the opponents today, Saturday January 21, at 6pm local time (3pm US ET / 9pm CET).
"After six months of observing, training and planning, the Seleção Brasileira is excited to play a friendly match, under the gaze of the press and the public," said Mario Lewandowski of AFAB. "With full confidence in our athletes and coaches, AFAB already considers the endeavor a success by the commotion caused in the universe Brazilian sports and the support received from football fans across the country.
"AFAB hopes for a clean game and sportsmanship and respect between both national teams and may American Football continue to develop and grow not only in Brazil but throughout South America."
The Brazilian Team Project, in accordance with the AFAB Plan of Action released last August, involves five teams and has the adult man's team, that plays this Saturday at the ABC Stadium in Foz do Iguaçu, as its flagship.
Among the other teams are the Flag Football National Teams, men's and women's, who are working hard to participate in the IFAF Flag Football World Championship in Sweden, this August. Other aspects of the project are the Women's Adult Team and the U19 National Team, which will be formed through the U19 Allstate Tournament, to be held this June.
To enhance the Brazilian U19 Team, AFAB expects to have the experience of four athletes who will representing Brazil on the IFAF World Team Development Tquad, next week as part of the International Bowl in Austin, in Texas.
The project also works towards the structuring of a South American Football Championship and the long-awaited participation of Brazil in the IFAF Senior World Championship in 2015 and 2019.
