Football Canada is pleased to announce that Mr. Roger Collette of Moncton, New Brunswick has been elected President of Football Canada during the national organization’s Annual General Meeting held in Ottawa on June 12, 2010.
Mr. Collette brings a wealth of experience and involvement with amateur football extending back to the 70’s within Moncton and Atlantic Canada. A founding member and Past President of Moncton Minor Football and Past President of Football New Brunswick, Roger believes “the CFL Touchdown Atlantic Canada game on September 26th of this year is an important catalyst in expanding and invigorating football programs within the Maritime region”. Mr. Collette is a past recipient of the CFL Award of Merit and the Football Canada Jeffrey St. Pierre Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to the development of the sport within New Brunswick and Canada.
Football Canada is celebrating its 126th anniversary as a heritage sport within Canadian culture. With 100,000 members and 400,000 participants in Canada, Football Canada’s future has never been brighter. Major 2010 events include Canada’s participation in the inaugural IFAF Senior Women’s World Tackle Championships in Stockholm, Sweden, June 26-July 3; the Football Canada Cup competition for U18 Men (8 teams and 350+ athletes) being hosted by Football Canada’s provincial member Football Nova Scotia in Wolfville, NS July 9-17; and finally the U15 Flag Football National Championship (54 athletes),the U18 National Invitational (72 athletes) and the IFAF World Senior Men’s and Women’s Flag Football Championships (228 athletes) being held in Ottawa from August 11-16. At the World Championships, Canada will be defending its Men’s 2008 gold medal against 10 countries and its Women’s 2008 silver medal against 9 countries from around the world.
