The EFAF (European American Football Federation) is already underway preparations for the upcoming 2010 season.
Spain and France are traditionally are the first two EFAF members to start their season whose club teams just began their quest for the national titles and in most other countries the teams are gathering for practices.
For 16 members, their seasons will be competing in the European Football League leading up to the Eurobowl final game during the first weekend of July.
The favorites going into the 2010 season are Eurobowl defending champions Tyrolean Raiders from Austria, the runner-sup La Courneuve Flash from France, and the 2009 German champions Berlin Adler. Another team that could impress are the Austrian champions Vienna Vikings who upse the EFL semi-finalists Tirol and Graz in the Austrian play-offs.
The Berlin Adler and Vienna Vikings have to make their way through the preliminary rounds before earning the shot at one of the four semi-finalists spots.
The scheduling design for the European Football League takes into account that all of the elite teams have to combine play within their national league with the European contest. In early years of the Eurobowl competition not all the teams were able or willing to take both challenges preventing the Eurobowl Champions to claim themselves champions of the European American Football.
This season, twelve teams will form four preliminary groups – playing one home and one away game each. The winner of each group will get the opportunity to face one of last year’s semi-finalists. The four top teams from last year not only automatically advance to the quarterfinals but also hold home field advantage in these games.
