U.S. Under-19 National Team Notes:
• Three players on the U.S. National Team are the sons of NFL-playing dads: CB ALEX CARTER/Stanford (Father: CB Tom Carter); LB HARDY NICKERSON, JR./Cal (Father: Hardy Nickerson, Sr.); CB RAY BUCHANAN JR./ Arkansas (Father: CB Ray Buchanan, Sr.). All three sons play the same positions as their fathers.
• U.S. National Team RB GREG GARMON (Iowa) of McDowell High School in Erie, Pa., is a cancer survivor. At age 13, Garmon underwent three months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment in addition to spinal taps and daily blood work before becoming cancer-free.
• Quarterback JARRETT "ANU" SOLOMON (Undecided) of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman High School, is the first high school junior to play for a U.S. Under-19 National Team.
• Offensive lineman JOE HARRIS (South Carolina) of Lithonia (Ga.) High School knows his way around the kitchen. "I can cook," Harris says. "I cook for my family all the time and they love it. I'm talking about full meals. Not just French fries and burgers, but steak and potatoes."
• Center SPENCER STANLEY (Rice) of Trinity Valley School in Fort Worth, Texas, is a first-degree black belt in American Karate, Tae-Kwon-Do and Shizen-Na Karate.
• Linebacker CARLOS MENDOZA (Arizona State) of Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, Calif., enjoys working on cars and aims to earn a master's degree in sports medicine.
• Once his football-playing days come to an end, tackle TREY KEENAN (Texas Tech) of Argyle (Texas) High School plans to become a ranch manager or game warden. He intends to major in Ranchland Management or Wildlife and Fisheries Management at Texas Tech.
• Linebacker NOOR DAVIS (Stanford) of Leesburg (Fla.) High School possesses a 4.33 GPA. He also fell in love with football while living in Canada as a youngster - one of 19 countries represented on the World Team coach and player roster. "I first began to learn how to play football in Ottawa," Davis said. "I attended a football camp at the University of Ottawa when I was 10 and have been in love with the game ever since."
• Running back IMANI CROSS (Nebraska) of Gainesville, Ga., played the drums in a band composed of his family members. The band's name, "STIIIC," stands for Spiritually Tuned Into Intelligent Ideas Individually Created.
• Wide receiver BRENNEN BLAKEMORE (Undecided) of Wimberley (Texas) High School is ambidextrous. "I eat, write, and shoot a basketball with my left hand. I hit a baseball, throw a football, play golf, and bowl right handed. I can catch with either hand."
• U.S. National Team Wide Receivers coach is 1993 Heisman Trophy Winner CHARLIE WARD (Florida State). Ward is the head coach at Westbury Christian School near Houston. The U.S. team has two quarterbacks verbally committed to Florida State: JAMEIS WINSTON of Hueytown (Ala.) High School and SEAN MAGUIRE of Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, N.J.
• The NCAA grants American high school seniors a National Team competition exemption to play in the International Bowl. The International Bowl is a National Team competition, not an all-star game, which means it does not count toward a senior's limit of two all-star game appearances.
